why am i still up?? i dont even know what time it is in my head, somewhere between cali time and ny time. mmm, time...
i havent written in helllof long cuz ive been crazy busy and plus its been too daunting to even try to explain my life to you all.
somehow the last solid month of my summer was spent with sam, minus a few hours here and there. right after i last wrote, sam got kicked out of his nashville band and moved back to oakland and that changed everything. it was suddenly sam and diana facing life together, day and night. he got close to my family and i got close to his and he and i got to know each other like the backs of our hands (awkward) and, never could i have predicted it, we're in love and all sappy and fucking rediculous. its wonderful.
we're planning on living together after i graduate and marriage is discussed and what the hell happened to future-phobic-me!
anyway, you know its a great summer when it ends with a tearfull goodbye with a boy at the airport. he said after he dropped me off he went home and crawled into bed with his dad who held him as he sobbed :( this is a boy who hasnt cried since dealing with his mom dying when he was ten. thats a powerful sign to him and he's not ready to let that go. SO, long distance relationship, here i come! its worth it to me right now, though. to be loved like he loves me is something i never even thought was possible. maybe its cuz im his first love... thats a powerful thing. i just wish i didnt have to leave him.
but school will be good this year. im really looking forward to my living situation and seeing everyone again and actually appreciating the final year rather than feeling trapped in an endless timeless subzero middle of nowhere haze. yay, hamilton! haha. no, its gonna be a good time this year, i can feel it. there are a lot of good things about hamilton, and those are all i intend to focus on this year. fuck the rest.

so, on sunday we had a welcome home/ memorial day BBQ @ my house. my front yard was full of great food and even better people all afternoon. happy diana. i was supposed to go on a double date/ hangout thing with kelli and her bf and vernon that night, but sasha happened to be driving up to santa cruz for the night and asked me to come along, which i ended up doing. fabulous choice! i got go on a mini road trip with sasha in her convertable and be goofy and talk about sex and then spend the night and today with julianne in her hotel-dorm-room and meet her incredably sweet bf and go to the bars and hang out by the pool and blow a lot of money in wonderful downtown santa cruz, etc. it was great, just got back. I LOVE CALIFORNIAAAAAAA

happiness doesnt come easily anymore. im not sure it ever really did, though, but something has changed. the world isnt giving me anything to lean on, i guess thats the difference. it used to be that my little world might fall apart but the greater world kept on going and i had blind faith in it. now that crutch is gone.
i was walking to class today listening to my headphones and thinking about my desire to ask "why" about everything and to make moral judgments, and i tried to imagine what it would be like to observe without judging, and suddenly all of the people walking by me made me want to smile uncontrollably. by the time i got to soc i was all smiles! luckily meg vw was too, so we just smiled together and it was lovely.
but objective observation is not the answer. i cant maintain that mindset; its not who i am. im always wondering what motivated people to do things and what the underlying problems are that create suffering in individuals and society etc. plus, sean's mind is much more cut out for objective observing and yet he's depressed all the time anyway. its not the key to happiness, but its a good exercise for me.
so what IS the key to happiness for me? during class i had some ideas and wrote them down. (ps im attracted to my soc prof!!)
What's important to me:
**To realize the limitations of my own perceptions and viewpoints
**To allow for the possibility of thoughts without value judgments
**To not stop asking why (bc thats me) but to continue to ask why even after i think i know
**To feel ok about feeling and thinking whatever i think and feel
**To let others have their own pain and their own judgments, even of me; to separate enough to view the space between their judgment and my existance
**To take care of myself
**To enjoy the beauty in the world and let it go; to realize that you dont need to contain something to appreciate it

most of my birthday is a blur, as it should be. i know it involved buying my first legal bottle of alcohol at midnight and then passing out in my friend kellis bed with her and her ghetto fabulous boyfriend and waking up to one of them rubbing my leg cuz they thought i was the other one hahaha. then there were margaritas with my mom, and sushi boats with my best friend, and apple martinis at a really really really offbeat random open mic bar with katrinca... and then getting really drunk and high with my childhood friends in piedmont and wandering around...and finding a whole bunch of mardi gra beads....
at one point my friend ashley decided to pole dance on a street sign, and then she fell and her legs were like wrapped around the pole and we saw a car coming and we thought it was so funny until we realized it was a cop car! so there i was with a big bag of alcohol and ashley's in a compromising position with a street sign and someone else is trying to take a picture of her and this cop pulls up and says, "how are you guys doing..." so ashleys like, "oh i just thought it would be a really funny picture to pose with this pole cuz i just got a new camera phone. how are you, sir?" and he was like, "well i was having a slow night, but you guys have brightened it up." ive never had to deal with cops stoned before, and piedmont cops never have anything to do. i was sure it was all over. then after a long pause he added, "seeing all of your smiling faces brightened up my night." asshole. its funny how repected cops are when half the time their job is just to drive around and mess with kids. i mean i respect some cops but piedmont cops are a joke. not to mention racist. if we'd been black id be in jail right now. anyway, i couldnt believe it when he drove off. must be birthday luck.
california is insane. i love it but im exhausted already!

so, life. life is good. this semester i feel like i really had the chance to get myself together and figure out a lot of important things. and working at the new england center is simply an indescribable experience. i cant really believe im leaving. i love the kids i work with so much and there is no real way to say goodbye.
i really dont like moving out of this house. this has become our house and our little tiny strange girly family. this is our home!
why must i get so attached to things and then leave them? im glad ive found something else worth missing though. thats always a good thing.
and i like a boy. a unitarian boy! ive seen him twice. we talk till 2 every night. i wish he'd hurry up in inventing his teleporter. i could use some UU kisses at this moment.

ive started to think that maybe we're all just too collectively emotionally injured to be salvageable as a species. if we all keep failing to take care of ourselves and consequently keep hurting each other, we are just making it harder and harder for any good to come of humanity. maybe we're too far gone and we will just keep perpetuating the cycle, and thats why its spread to a global level... and maybe thats why people in america are so adamant about their political views because they know that the world needs saving somehow, when really it all starts with the individuals and most individuals are not capable of doing what they need to do.... something has to change cuz the road we're on doesnt look good. im disappointed and scared and feel really really discouraged about everything thats important to me. and that probably comes from me having too positive an outlook before, but its still hard.

since livejournal is aparently the way we all communicate, here is what i have to say:
josh and i were discussing how im always somehow partially involved in drama even though i hate it. today i realized why: i am the enabler( a term usually used for people like the wife of the alcoholic dad in a disfunctional family). i let the drama happen and i dont tell people when it is not ok and i just try to smooth things over for people. well, im not doing it anymore. i let people know what is not ok and now i am taking myself out of the equation. let me know if you want to have a clear, open, civilized conversation. until then, im sorry but theres nothing i can do. i have other things i need to focus my energy on.
(if u dont know what im talking about then im prob not talking to you so no worries)

ok so i had ONE beer just now to wind down my aweful monday, and now im allll crazy!!! weeee ok so aparently im going to visit hamilton this weekend! how fantastic! im glad i got that settled. anddd yea i duno i have a lot to say but not to like the whole world so ok im gonna go be a nut somewhere else lalala

things are good. overall.
im happy i joined the gym near our house :) the guys who work there are cute enough to brighten up a stressful day of grad school classes and moody children. the girls i live with make me happy too. comisserating, sex talks, causing scenes everywhere we go... its endless fun!
josh came to visit last weekend. it was a really good weekend & it reconnected me with the world outside of NECC. we spent lots of time in boston... visited sam @ his school which was sooo weird/cool... oh and i became really obsessed with antarctica after seeing an imax movie about it saturday night hehe. seriously i could go off about how cool antarctica is for like hours. if you're interested just ask. :P
a few things are still hard for me, but i think progress (although terribly slow at times) is being made. i sure hope so.
